We are the temples of God (1 Cor. 3:16). But there are two kinds of temple. There is the pattern of Solomon's temple, which was filled with the glory of God, and there is the pattern of the second temple (later, Herod's temple), which was never filled with God's glory. In fact, there was no Ark of the Covenant in it because it had been carried away by Jeremiah at the time of the Babylonian captivity. Only a stone slab stood in its place.
And so, people are temples either with or without the (awareness of the) inner presence of God. In our flesh, we are patterns of Herod's temple for 46 is also the numeric value of Adam in Greek. With the Holy Spirit, we are patterns of Solomon's temple. Our fleshly temples are defined by chromosomes. We have 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46, and these define our fleshly temples (Herod's temple). Does not nature itself teach us?
