Our Inheritance This Side of the Jordan

There was a popular word shared by Bro. Bill Britton many years ago that he entitled “The 42nd Generation”. I will share some quotes from this in this writing as a foundation for the direction I want to go here and will indicate his words in quotation marks when I do.

“The Sons of God are all numbered! The Bible says so…”He telleth the number of the stars, He calleth them all by their names.” (Psa. 147:4) Now surely you don’t think he was just talking about those bright lights you see up in the sky at night? Beloved, the stars that God is interested in enough to name and number are the stars referred to in Daniel 12:3 and Rev. 1:20, The Sons of God that shall turn many to righteousness, and shall be found in His right hand at His coming! The prophet Isaiah cried out in Isa. 40:26, “Lift up you eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number…”

There is a strange verse in Matthew 1, dealing with numbers that can only be understood by seeing the full revelation of the corporate Christ that is coming forth in His image:
“So all the generations from Abraham to David are FOURTEEN generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are FOURTEEN generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon into CHRIST are FOURTEEN generations.”

THE MISSING GENERATION

“Now get your Bibles out and you will discover by reading the first sixteen verses of the book of Matthew that sure enough David was number 14 of the generations listed, and Jeconias ( the king who went into Babylon) was number 28, or 14 in the second list, but then you find that Joseph the husband of Mary was number 40 in the list, making him the 12th generation from the carrying away into Babylon. This makes Jesus, according to law, the 41st generation, or the 13th one on the 3rd list. Why? Where is the 42nd generation? Why did it seemingly leave the list incomplete with Jesus who left no son to carry on his name or bring in the next final generation?

I propose to show you that the 42nd generation referred to as Christ in Matt. 1:17 refers to the Christ in 1 Cor. 12:12, 27. The 42nd generation is not Jesus alone, but it is His son, the overcomer of Rev. 21:7. It is that company of people spoken of by Isa. 8:12 and Heb. 2:13 as “the children God hath given me.” …This is the generation of Jesus Christ, an “ecclesia” called out of all ages and all generations, those who are the true seed of Abraham, who are “joint heirs with Christ,” who rule and reign with Him on the throne of their father David!

Turn with me and now and read the 53rd chapter of Isaiah, that precious messianic prophecy referring to our lovely Saviour, written some 700 years before His birth. Notice verses 8 – 10..
“He was taken from prison and from judgment: and WHO SHALL DECLARE HIS GENERATIION? For He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was He stricken. And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him, He hath put Him to grief; when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, HE SHALL SEE HIS SEED, HE SHALL PROLONG HIS DAYS, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.”

Now it is easy to see what this scripture is speaking of. The prophecy says that he would be stricken and cut off from the land of the living before he had brought forth any children to carry on his name or “prolong his days.”…..

Then seemingly the prophet is amazed as the revelation that is coming forth through him, for he starts verse 10 with “yet..” And though this One he prophesied about has been cut off with evidently no one to “declare his generation” yet, we find the Word of the Lord saying “HE SHALL SEE HIS SEED HE SHALL PROLONG HIS DAYS…” But I declare to you today that it is not natural children after the flesh that it is talking about…it is a clear and definite reference to the “missing generation” of Matthew, chapter one.

Psalms 22:30-31 “ A seed shall serve Him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for A GENERATION. They shall come, and shall DECLARE HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS unto a people that shall be born, that He hath done this.” I don’t care how many times the agnostics, unbelievers, and lukewarm Christians, say that it can’t be done, I declare to you that God’s Word says a generation shall come forth and walk in His righteousness upon this earth. Praise God! Aren’t you glad that you are a part of this “chosen generation”.

Isaiah 61: 9 says it all: “All that see them shall acknowledge them, THAT THEY ARE THE SEED WHICH THE LORD HATH BLESSED.”

If Jesus has brethren, then He is an elder brother. If he has children, as seed to declare His generation, then He must be a father. Lets look at Isaiah again chapter 9, verse 6…
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, the prince of Peace.

The prophet does not apologize, he simply states that a child is born, that this child is a Son, that he shall rule and reign…..He could be speaking of no one other than our Lord Jesus. Now, if He Jesus, is the everlasting Father, then who is His Son. If he is the 41st generation from Abraham, then who is the 42nd? The number 42 is 6 times 7. Six being the number of man, seven divine perfection. It is this 42nd generation, by receiving the life of the Son born from above by the seed of God, not Adam, who finally in the last days brings man to the state of perfection.” End of quote by Bill Britton

*****************************************
It is Christ in you that is the hope of glory…not Christ in heaven , but IN YOU. And I might add that it is Christ AS YOU THAT IS THE GLORY. We have to move beyond just a hope. Christ wants to come out of his hidden place from within that we might be clothed upon and that He might be manifested to the world.

I first came into this word back in the late 70’s and was an avid reader of Bro. Bill Britton’s and, Bro.George Hawtin’s material, for I was so hungry for deeper truth and had just left organized religion. Their writings helped to establish me in the message of Sonship (growing up into the full stature of Christ) and in the word of reconciliation (the salvation of all).

While reading the bible one day about the conquests of the children of Israel, I was struck with three particular tribes and their request for their inheritance on the East side of the Jordanor before all Israel had crossed the Jordan. I always thought that Israel didn't come into the Promised Land until they crossed the Jordan. And I have always heard these three tribes preached in a disparaging way. But spirit, was giving me, I believe, a totally different picture of them and, for me, they were outer pictures of an inner truth that was being made real in me. And that truth was that there would be a people stand on this earth demonstrating the fullness of Christ, the perfection of Christ while yet in a body. They would come into full salvation demonstrating spirit, soul and body salvation without tasting death. Or in other words, they would inherit this side of Jordan, Jordan being a symbol for death.

These three tribes were Reuben, Gad and Manasseh. Reuben’s name means: (Heb) “to behold or see a son.” This son is manifested or seen is the emphasis being made here.

Gad’s name means: (Heb) “fortune (in the sense of distributing) and a troop who invades or overcomes.

And Manasseh who is the grandson of Jacob and son of Joseph and his name means “causing to forget”. After Joseph came to the throne, and had his firstborn son he named him Manasseh because he said God had caused him to forget all he had endured before coming to the throne.

In these three names I see the presenting of the overcomer spoken of in Revelation. God is saying “ I have a tried and tested Son here, he has overcome and I have caused him to forget all the former things he has endured: I have wiped away all tears.” And in these three I also see a picture of the spirit, soul and body that receives its full inheritance.

These three tribes (actually it was two and half tribes because only half the tribe of Manasseh asked for their inheritance which says to me that this blessing of having all tears wiped away is not just for the first-fruit company of enchristed ones but for the rest of creation as they too come into their inheritance) requested from Moses that they receive their inheritance in the land that the Israelites had just conquered which was the land of Heshbon whose king was Sihon, and the land of Bashan ruled by the last of the giants, king Og.

All of the men of war in Israel had died by the 38th year before they came to this hill country ( higher, more elevated dimensions) on the eastern side of the Jordan as God told them they would. Only those who were born in the wilderness were allowed to take the new land. All those old warring concepts, which come from the tree of good and evil, and keep you in duality thinking and separation from God, will have to be exterminated from our thinking to be able to take this land. You will have to be of single eye, purpose and vision. ( Deut. 2:14-16)

Before we proceed any further, I would like to point out something I don’t think that many realize and that is that the land that God promised to Abraham was not just over on the western side of the Jordan, but this is the promise he made to him:

“..To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates…” (Gen 15:18) That would be the Nile River of today all the way back to the Euphrates which today is part of Iraq. I am not interested in getting into any present day natural discussion of these facts, but am desirous to see what their spiritual application is to us within the promised land that we are.

The king of Heshbon was Sihon.

Heshbon means: (Heb) power of thinking; reason; understanding; intelligence; purposing; inventing; arts; devises

Sihon means: (Heb) wiping out; uprooting; eradicating; exterminating; sweeping away, ie., as a warrior sweeping all before him; great; extreme boldness.

This is a king and his land that must be conquered. It speaks of the carnal mind and our need to “Refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the (true) knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One.” (I Cor. 10:5)

The king of Bashan was the giant Og.

Bashan means: (Heb) light sandy soil; smooth fertile field; fruitful.

This is a desirous place to be but there were squatters in that land promised to the Israelites that had to be routed.

In this case it was Og which means: (Heb) long-necked giant.

I believe that this means this king, or thought realm has had a very powerful hold in the consciousness of man that keeps him from coming into a fertile, fruitful place in God.

But God told Moses that the Israelites were to begin to possess these lands for he had given it unto them. They took all the cities and it says these were high walled cities fortified with haughty walls, gates and bars, but God gave it all to them. This speaks of a complete deliverance for us: that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.

After the full and complete routing of all from the land, Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh found this land to be very desirous and requested from Moses their inheritance. Moses chided them for wanting their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan saying it would dissuade the rest of the children of Israel from rising up and taking the rest of the promised land on the west of the Jordan. But they pledged their fidelity to Moses and their brothers telling them:

“But we will be ready armed to go before the Israelites, until we have brought them to their place. Our little ones shall dwell in the fortified settlements because of the people of the land. We will not return to our homes until the Israelites have inherited every man his inheritance. For we will not inherit with them on the (west) side of Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of Jordan eastward.” ( Amp. Num 32:17)

It says in Numbers 34:15 “The two and one-half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan at Jericho, toward the SUNRISE."

The ‘sunrise/SONrise' speaks to me of a people coming into their inheritance at the dawning of the Day. Are we not His Day and is this not The Day of the Lord? I have a copy of the book of Jasher, which is mentioned in in the Bible in the book of Chronicles and it says that they led their brethren into battle and were the first to cross the Jordan and they stayed with them for seven years until the rest of their brethren conquered the land and came into their rest or inheritance too.

The prevailing thought in religion today is that you get your inheritance in the by and by after you die and go to heaven, or metaphorically speaking, cross the Jordan. They can’t see that the word always says Today is the day of salvation. It is always Now with spirit. God is always present tense, I AM. When we walk in the light, [or when we walk in His present Presence] we are one with The Day.

Well, as I was saying I felt back then (70’s) that I was being shown through this example a people that represent the firstfruits or the 144,000 that Revelation speaks of. So, excitedly I turned to Numbers where the tribes are all numbered and felt for sure when I added up the total of them all it just had to come out to 144,000 . Well, it didn’t. I was confident that in time I would receive an answer about this so just moved on to other things as we all do.

Just a few years ago I finally received an answer to this question that I held before the spirit. In numerology, numbers are reduced down to their lowest value. Let me illustate:

Reuben numbered 43,730 which equals 4+3+7+3+0= 17
Gad numbered 40,500 which equals 4+0+5+0+0= 9
½ Manasseh numbered 26,350 which equals 2+6+3+5+0= 16

17 + 9 + 16 = 42

Here we are at the number 42 again, the missing generation. If there is truth in anything, you should be able to find it duplicated in our Pattern, Jesus. I found references where he would resort beyond the Jordan (east) several times.

In John 1:28-29 “These things occurred in Bethany across the Jordan (at the Jordan crossing) where John was baptizing. The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!”

Jesus began his ministry, and was baptized by John, east of the Jordan. If this is true for Him, would it not also be true for those who are in His full image? Will we come into the full-measure anointing this side of Jordan?

Jesus was also transfigured on Mt. Hermon, which was land that was allotted to these tribes originally. The glory and light of his inner being outrayed him to the outside showing us his glory and giving us a glimpse of the glory that, too, is ours in him. We pray that these few thoughts prove to be a blessing and encourage us to believe for the fullness of him, body, soul and spirit in ourselves. How can the head be all-glorious and the body be any less?

Abundant blessings to all,
Karen
