There is a part of us that is not locked or solely focused in physical reality. It is solely connected to the Eternal Now, the whole of the Alpha and Omega of God. This is our spirit. And our spirit is The One that is groaning and travailing to birth these heavens into our earth. When we mention groaning, I think people often misunderstand that to mean that it is just our natural being that is the one that is pining after God, but no, it is the Spirit that groans and travails within us:
"...the Spirit Himself pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance."
Why?
Because "He who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the Spirit - what His intent is - because the Spirit intercedes and pleads in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will." Rom. 8
